live poker action

Well today my dad and I went over to his golf club to play in their monthly tournament. Its $50 buy in with a $40 rebuy if you bust out. The structure was pretty shitty but what can you expect from one of these.

I started out great and doubled up on the 5 hand where I picked up AA against some guy who had QQ. Right after that my dad and I started to get killed. My dad got by far the worst of it. He lost AA to 75 then on the very next hand he lost KK to J7, then 5 hands later he had to laydown QQ on the river when the two others guys went crazy on the river when an ace hit, of course they turn over A8 and A5. Then about 6 hands later he got all in with QQ vs Q9 and the guy made a straight flush on him. He rebought after that hand. It was just insane, in 15 hands he lost AA, KK and QQ twice. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

Then after this happened about 3 hands later I pick up KK and run into aces and double that guy up. I thought this was gonna be a repeat of what happened last time we played there when my dad and I were card dead for 2 hours.

I was really struggling and was all the way down to 500 in chips when the average stack was around 1700. But I tripled up on my big blind when my 104 made a full house and then I just started to steal blinds like crazy. Here the most interesting of those hands.

The blinds are 200/400 and I have about 3000 in chips, its folded to me on the button and I look down at A3 of spades, I raise to 1200 just hoping for another steal. The small blind folds and the big blind goes into the tank. Its this stupid lady that I've played with before, she has about the same as me and she asks if I'll show if she folds, I say sure and eventually she folds AK face up!!! I almost felt bad showing her my hand but for some reason she seeming happy with her laydown. And infact she was right cuz they ran the cards and I would have hit a 3 on the river, go figure.

Well my dad pretty much just got whittled away in the 200-400 and 300-600 level and had to go all in in the small blind. This is the one hand where I really misplayed the hand.

Level is 300-600 I have about 4500 in chips. I post my big blind and get dealt J9, and my dad is allin in the small blind for 300. Its gets folded to the button who min raises to 1200 and I just call. He was a pretty crappy player so I didn't really give him credit for anything. The flop comes 356 with 2 clubs, I check he checks, the turn comes the 8 of clubs and I checked which I think was a huge huge mistake, unless he had the A or K of clubs I knew he was going to fold but I pussied out and checked, river was an A and I knew he had an ace in his hand so i checked again and of course he turns over A2 and my dad gets knocked out.

I should have bet the turn to try to steal the pot and he would have folded for sure. I knew it was the right play but I just chickened out and the worst part is that my dad got eliminated. I know your not supposed to be played together but if id have played the hand correctly i would have won a nice sidepot and he would still be in the tourney.

I tried to stay focused and somehow I made it to the final table, 40 people started the event and they were played the top ten which was nice and I didnt have to rebuy. I had a couple of key hands at the final table.

Went all in UTG with 108 for 2.5 BB and got called by AK but I flopped an 8 and I was still alive.

Picked up AA in the small blind and tripled up, but I only started the hand with 2 BB.

Called and allin with J6 since it was only 1000 with 5000 in the pot, dude turned over Q6, damn it, i thought i at least had live cards. This hand put me down to 2 BB.

I went allin on the next hand with Q9, and go called by Q6 in the big blind and of course he flopped a 6 and I was out in 6th place.

Im pretty happy with how I played and I did as good as I could with the cards I was getting. I had at least 5 people allin throughout the tournament but I didnt knock out one person. But i was very aggressive when the blinds got big and kept myself in the game as much as I could.
